"The design philosophy for the Dubai Hills Retail District is to create a ‘Streets and Squares’ destination within the shopping journey. The ambition is to create a feeling of community in a social space that is bounded by an interaction of different people and generations. Ultimately creating a gathering place for families and friends.Through the unique street character, each environment will house ample food and beverage, with areas for kidsplay in and around the soft landscape.The ultimate approach has been to move away from a‘typical’ mall environment by creating timeless spaces under cover, while keeping the roofscape as simple as possible. Streetscape materials are reflected on the principles of ‘town centre’ planning, using natural paving materials, plants, natural light. A true mix of art and culture on the shopping journey while maintaining the‘streets and squares’ approach. This layer will be designed to complement the diverse offering of fashion, art and sports in the stores. The importance to future proof this destination through technology advances has been a main driver to ensure a simple application approach with the shoppers in mind."
